Supporting a  Shared Data System  for Australian Social Enterprises

Helping the social enterprise sector to develop, innovate and shift systems

Social enterprise is an important part of Australia’s social economy and its potential to generate positive social change. Having good data and analysis is important to unlocking that potential. However, current information about the Australian social enterprise sector is inconsistent, outdated and fragmented or hidden.

Not knowing enough about the sector’s characteristics and impacts limits the support needed to scale the possibilities of social enterprise. It holds the sector back from being seen, valued, and invested in to grow impact.

To help change this, Melbourne Social Equity Institute and its Seedkit team are working with Social Enterprise Australia and the Social Enterprise World Forum to support the foundational development of a shared data system for Australian social enterprises.

The goal is to help the social enterprise sector to develop, innovate and shift systems, and to empower policymakers and funders to unlock social enterprise impact.

This project is supported by seed funding from Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation and multi-year support from Minderoo Foundation.
