Gender dynamics in community volunteering practices

Project Description

Dominica is writing her PhD on women’s informal volunteering after natural disasters. Natural disasters are gendered events that greatly exacerbate pre-existing inequalities for women, however the volunteer emergency management systems currently in place to help women in affected communities are heavily male dominated and in steady decline. Women’s informal voluntary work could reveal alternative ways of volunteering after natural disasters that could perhaps contribute to more equitable recovery services
