Associate Professor Karen Block Appointed Deputy Director

We are delighted to announce that Associate Professor Karen Block has been appointed as the new Deputy Director of the Melbourne Social Equity Institute. Karen assumes the role previously held by Professor Julie McLeod and Professor Sara Wills.
Karen has a strong national and international profile in the area of migration studies, exploring the interplay between host communities and migrants and the complex ways in which this interaction affects health inequalities, integration, inclusion and social cohesion.
She is a long-time collaborator with the Melbourne Social Equity Institute. Karen co-leads the Institute's Migration and Mobility Research Priority Area and convenes the Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Migration, Statelessness and Refugee Studies. As Deputy Director, she will continue this work and further support our community-engaged and coproductive research activities.
Karen tells us “I have loved collaborating with the team at Melbourne Social Equity Institute since its inception and am delighted to now be joining them in the role of Deputy Director. I am particularly looking forward to helping further the Institute’s terrific work facilitating and leading interdisciplinary, co-productive research in pursuit of greater social equity.”
The Deputy Director's role with Melbourne Social Equity Institute is part-time and Karen will continue to hold positions with the Child and Community Wellbeing Program in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health and with the Anti-Racism Hallmark Research Initiative.
