Supporting Street Dance Communities to Access Public Spaces
Through the Community Fellows Program, Geoffrey Lim is exploring access to public spaces for creative communities.
Geoffrey Lim is the Executive Director of Cypher Culture, a small not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting street dance in Melbourne.
Street dance communities are rich with history, identity and social connection, particularly for young people, people of colour and other marginalised groups. With the support of his Academic Mentor, Dr Sabina Andron from the Melbourne Centre for Cities, Geoffrey is using his Community Fellowship to research and advocate for access to public spaces for creative communities.
For Geoffrey, the experience has been both practical and personal: “It’s built my confidence and it’s built my hope that I’m on the right path and I’ll be able to affect change in a way that’s meaningful.”
