About the Repository
The Community Engaged and Coproductive Research Repository brings together a curated selection of scholarly works on community engaged and coproductive research methodologies for social equity. A core feature of community engaged and coproductive research is a high level of community decision making and partner involvement in the purpose, design, conduct and use of research. These approaches recognise the significant expertise of people affected by social inequities and engage with them as active agents in designing research for positive social change.
The repository is designed to be as accessible and intuitive as possible, with the aim of providing a resource for those newly interested in undertaking coproductive research as well as for experienced engaged researchers. The intent is to develop an understanding of innovation, insights, clusters, and gaps or silences regarding co-productive and community-engaged research. Recognising the increased interest and adoption of coproductive methodologies, the repository’s founders hope to provide students, researchers, faculty, and anyone interested in the field easy and consolidated access to highly relevant literature.
It contains citations from research undertaken from 2010 onwards in high-, middle-, and low-income country settings. Significant and highly influential articles pre-dating the year 2000 have also been included. The papers selected for inclusion in the repository each provide examples of dynamic coproductive research and reflexive practice. The repository excludes research papers focussed on consumer engagement in medical research and PhD theses.
The repository is a work-in-progress and will continuously evolve to include new papers.

Help us to coproduce the Repository
The Community Engaged and Coproductive Research Repository is a work-in-progress. To recommend an article for inclusion please download and complete the screening document and return it to the Melbourne Social Equity Institute.
In addition, we are seeking reviewers to screen papers against a set of inclusion / exclusion criteria to ensure articles included in the repository are examples of dynamic coproductive research and reflexive practice.
This is a very large undertaking, given the repository is currently sitting at 700+ articles. Our current volunteer reviewers include Masters and PhD students and early and mid-career researchers as well as professional staff interested in community engaged and coproductive research.
What you’ll get out of it:
- Every person who is involved in screening will be named as a contributor on the Melbourne Social Equity Institute’s website.
- A greater understanding of the methodology and what good practice looks like.
- Creating interdisciplinary connections with PhD researchers and academics from across the University of Melbourne and beyond.
