Project Description

Nicola's PhD research project is on work integrated social enterprise (WISE) and young people's transitions to employment. It is situated in the sociology of youth unemployment and aims to meet a gap in the literature on the transition experiences of young people experiencing barriers to employment from active labour market programs, of which WISE are one example. Drawing on a case study, it aims to uncover how participants view current and/or previous barriers to employment, their work readiness and pathway options into meaningful employment upon leaving and up to two years after leaving WISE. The research aims to ascertain what place WISE programs working with young people have in the Australian employment services system and will uncover the features of inclusive employment for disadvantaged young people.
