Making Informed Choices About Using DNA
A Resource for People with Experience of Adoption and/or Out-of-Home Care

DNA testing services, also known as direct-to-consumer genetic testing services, are emerging as a way for those separated from family members by adoption or out-of-home care, to obtain information or seek connection with their lost kin.
This new resource is designed to help people with this experience to understand what to expect from DNA testing, consider some of the issues and risks, know their options, and to consider whether they want to access support services that might be helpful to them.
This resource is an outcome of the Melbourne Social Equity Institute seed funded research project The Use and Impacts of Direct-to-Consumer Genetic Testing and Data Platforms for Family Tracing After Adoption or Out-of-Home Care: A Victorian Pilot Study.
