Melbourne Social Equity Institute's Community Fellows Program has been named the winner of the Award for Excellence in Community Engagement at Engagement Australia's Excellence Awards held in Parramatta on 21 November 2023.
The Engagement Australia Awards focus on outstanding nation-building initiatives, demonstrating far-reaching impact and innovation, in all sectors and aspects of the Australian economy and community.
Director of Melbourne Social Equity Institute, Professor Jo Barraket, said, “The Community Fellows Program disrupts the typical researcher-researched relationship, putting knowledge creation and access to the research infrastructure of the University of Melbourne in the hands of the community leaders and organisations we seek to serve. I am very proud of all involved.”
Melbourne Social Equity Institute was represented at the event by Bosede Adetifa, the Yoruba Heritage and Cultural Association of Victoria's Program Facilitator and a 2023 Community Fellow; and Dr Nicholas Hill, a McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Social and Political Sciences and a 2023 Community Fellows Program Academic Mentor.
Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists, including the three other winners from the University of Melbourne:
