Strengthening Institutions

Ensuring institutions are effective, accountable, and responsive to the diverse populations they serve.

Strong institutions, based on principles of pluralism, participation, social norms and the rule of law, provide the foundation for societies in which the rights and interests of all can be promoted and protected. The aim of this research program is to discover ways of ensuring institutions are effective, accountable, and responsive to the diverse populations they serve.

This encompasses ways to strengthen democratic institutions and processes of institutional change, as well as examining business practices to identify how firms can prevent, manage and learn from crises that affect both organizations and societies.

This research program is led by Professor Shelley Mallett and Associate Professor Hari Bapuji.
