International Human Rights Law on Persons with Disabilities: New Frontiers in Anti-Discrimination Law

Professor Theresia Degener, Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Professor of Law and Disability Studies (Protestant University of Applied Sciences, RWL, Germany), will lead this masterclass on the right to be protected against discrimination and the right to equality under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Prof Degener will discuss the Committee’s previous statements and jurisprudence relating to this right, and place them in the broader context of human rights and disability. The masterclass will also explore the human rights model of disability and its theoretical and practical implications for the realisation of the human rights of all persons.

This Masterclass is primarily intended for Graduate and Research Higher Degree students at the University of Melbourne, although applications from other students and researchers will be considered, subject to availability.

The program will consist of a two-hour masterclass focused on international human rights law on persons with disabilities, a drinks reception and a one-hour public lecture.   Masterclass places are strictly limited.
