Establishing Equality and Non-Discrimination: The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities' New Model of Inclusive Equality

Prof Theresia Degener, Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Professor of Law and Disability Studies (Protestant University of Applied Sciences, RWL, Germany), will discuss the challenges and the opportunities the CRPD Committee has faced in its ten years of treaty body work.

She will focus in particular on the latest draft General Comment on Equality and Non-Discrimination which seeks to establish a new model of equality - called inclusive equality - in international human rights law.

A drinks reception with light refreshments will be held from 5.15pm in the Level 1 events space. The lecture will commence at 6pm.

Please note: due to public demand this event has been moved to the David P. Derham Lecture Theatre. The lecture theatre can be accessed from Level 1 via stairs – the accessible entrance is via the Mezzanine Level (GM).

The venue for this event is wheelchair accessible and the lecture will be Auslan interpreted.
